Meyer regret

Post by ufg8rjim on Wed May 29, 2013 10:25 am

Meyer regrets the way his Florida tenure ended

“I didn’t at first. I thought we did a good job. We did our best. I look back now, the way it ended was certainly a regret. Does that mean it haunts me? Not at all. I’ve always felt our job is to do a good job and do it the right way, do it ethically and for the best interest of the student-athlete — check, check, check. I’ll always be associated with the school, and my great friends are there and all that. Absolutely none with that. It just wasn’t a normal way to move on. There would have been if I would have stayed out. I was worried about survival for a little bit.”

Am I wrong to have an intense dislike bordering on hatred for this guy?

Wrong? No.

He did a lot of good things for Florida. He also did some bad things to Florida when he left, came back, wasn't really here, and left again.

As a person he comes across as very... un-genuine... to me.

Exactly.

I hate that he quit and then unquit.

I hate that he took $4 million that year and clearly half-assed his way through the season.

I hate that he stood up there in front of everyone and said he had too much respect for UF to say that his health was ok in a year and go put someone else's colors on and coach their team and then do exactly that.

I hate that he said UF was the top of the mountain and there could never be a situation where he left us for another job and then he did just that.

I hated all the top 1% of 1% crap he talked.

I hate the culture of arrests and bad behavior that marked his tenure.

He just never really felt like a Gator to me.

And most of all I hate that he keeps going around talking about how he'll always be a Gator. No - you're not. It's not up to you, it's up to us and you've been excommunicated.

I really hope we never honor him in, on or near that stadium.

I felt as though once Tim Tebow was gone, Meyer was gone. He wasn't willing to wait around and see what kind of talent came down the pipe next. He simply folded camp and slunk out of town.

I think my feelings mirror yours for the most part.
All his supporters still tout how he won us two national titles want to latch onto him as a "Gator".
But like you, I never really felt like he's a Gator. More like a mercenary. He won us titles, which he was paid to do, but the allegiance was never there.

Muschamp, on the other hand, looks genuine. Although he's not the rah rah guy in press conferences and speeches...his emotion on the field make him endearing to me. What you see is what you get.

Love this video of him hugging players and celebrating with the fans after the Tennessee win last year.

Very cool video that shows why Muschamp is much easier to accept as a Gator.

Remember how Meyer had his stupid rule about having to earn Florida gear? I always felt like he hadn't earned it - how could he take it from players who had earned it after 2-3-4 years?
